If challenging behaviour occurs, it is essential to identify in consultation with key supports in their life a package of interventions, designed to meet their needs. This requires clear and consistent communication along with carefully planned strategies. Some examples that someone can have complex needs would be folks with learning or physical disabilities, autism, mental health, acquired brain injury or dementia, often combined with physical health needs that might include epilepsy or sensory issues. People express challenging behaviour(s) as a way of getting their needs met. They are either communicating they want to get away from, or get to something/someone.
